Why?

As the "movement" of Christian Polygamy began to grow in the late 1990's, some men began to misconstrue the teachings of Christian Polygamy. They thus created harm.

Such cruel harm-causing men wrongly attempted to self-justify their hard-heartedness by declaring that they could supposedly marry another wife regardless of a current wife's feelings about it. Consequently, many of such cruel men ended up losing their wives. Their incorrect assertions, and the horrific carnage they created, would soon come to be what is now known as "force polygamy" (as opposed to "love-not-force" polygamy); namely, forcing polygamy on a wife who is not ready or willing to freely embrace such a profound change to the family's dynamic.

Because "force polygamy" is both cruel and un-Christian, because women needed (and need) to be protected from such cruelty, and because the very sake of the "movement" of Christian Polygamy was at serious risk of soon becoming destroyed by such ungodly and cruel men and their false ideas, the need for a solution became vitally essential. The man known as "Mark the Founder" (from TruthBearer.org) addressed the matter. On July 13, 1999, he wrote an important article and therewith coined the new term, "love-not-force". He called it, "The Truth Bearer Vision of love-not-force", and it remains as the Vision of the TruthBearer organization to this day. In the years that followed, he laid down all the principles of the teaching of "love-not-force", and it has come to be known in many different circles, including non-Christian ones, as simply,"love-not-force".

Mindset & Standard

Consequently, "love-not-force" has become a mindset, in both Christian and non-Christian circles.

More importantly, "love-not-force" has now become the standard by which TRUE Christian Polygamy is defined. This new terminology is now the means of verbally expressing that standard.

If a person can not or will not walk in the teachings of "love-not-force", then they are NOT walking in TRUE Christian Polygamy.

As such, anyone who would commit "force polygamy" (i.e., cruelly forcing polygamy on their wife) would certainly not be walking in true love. And for that reason, even as "love-not-force" does come from a decidedly and unapologetically Christian perspective, the teachings of "love-not-force" are, nevertheless, still applicable for anyone, including non-Christians, who might be considering polygamy for their own lives.

Accordingly, the teachings of "love-not-force" answer the commonly asked question, "How does one help a 'first wife' willingly embrace the idea of polygamy?
